Postdoc (f/m/d) for the theoretical investigation of quantum magnetic systems
Reference No.: QM 2024/17
Our team studies strongly correlated electron systems with a special focus on
quantum magnetism. We are particularly interested in a theoretical
understanding of frustrated spin systems, possibly hosting novel types of
quantum states such as spin liquids. In collaboration with our experimental
colleagues at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, we aim to transfer our knowledge to
real materials, to develop a microscopic understanding of magnetism in nature.
Your Tasks
* You develop and apply analytical and numerical methods for the
investigation of novel quantum magnetic states of matter in frustrated spin
systems. Methods to be applied include, e.g., field theory approaches, exact
diagonalization, renormalization group techniques or Monte-Carlo methods.
* You investigate topological properties of magnetic quantum states such as
fractional quasiparticle excitations in spin liquids.
* You transfer the obtained knowledge to quantum magnetic materials
* You collaborate with experimental groups within and outside the
Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin and work in close collaboration with the Department
for Physics at Freie Universität Berlin and its research groups.
Your Profile
* Doctoral degree in theoretical solid state physics
* Profound knowledge in the field of quantum magnetism
* Extensive experience with analytical and/or numerical methods in solid
state physics.
Your Benefits at HZB
* Exciting research in the science metropolis Berlin
* Flexible work hours
* Mobile working on up to three days/week
* Comprehensive counselling services for family and career
* Health management and company sports programmes
* Subsidy for public transport (Deutschlandticket Job)
* And a team that looks forward to meeting you!
Fixed term contract for 30 months. The salary is based on the Collective
Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
How to apply
Please upload the following documents with your application:
* Motivation letter describing your scientific background and research
interests
* Curriculum vitae (CV) including details of education, career stages,
publications, research experience and contact details of at least two
scientific references
* Scientific certifications
We look forward to receiving your application via our application management
system by 13.12.2024. For reasons of data protection regulations, we are
unfortunately unable to consider applications that reach us by other means
(such as email or mail) in the application process.
We very much want our workplace to be diverse, and welcome applications from
people with different backgrounds. It is our mission to promote equal
opportunities and to improve women’s representation in the workforce. We
are therefore very interested in receiving applications from women. Where the
qualifications are met, we will give preference to people with disabilities.
